film synopsis

Thoughtful and reserved, family man Tomás (Javier Cámara, Talk to Her) takes a break from his life in Canada to travel to Madrid in order to spend a few days with lifelong best friend Julián (Ricardo Darín, The Secret in Their Eyes), whose messy, complicated life has taken a darker turn in the form of a dire cancer prognosis. With Julián's beloved dog Truman in tow, the pair walk and talk, discuss what needs to be done and recall loves and losses, triumphs and regrets.

Winner of five Goya Awards, Cesc Gay's beautiful new film is a wise and tender ode to friendship, frequently funny, emotionally rich and honest without being cloying. With outstanding performances from two of Spanish-speaking cinema's finest stars, supported by a terrific turn from Dolores Fonzi (and not forgetting Troilo, the scene-stealing bullmastiff in the title role), Truman is like a warm afternoon spent with old friends, having a drink, shooting the breeze and feeling pretty good.

Winner: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Screenplay, Goya Awards; Best Actor, San Sebastián
