2017 PS Film Festival
film synopsis
In the tradition of the defining works of Ernest Hemingway and Jack London, this directorial debut from screenwriter Emiliano Torres is a lean, muscular tale of survival against the unforgiving forces of both nature and man himself.
Knowing little of life beyond the workings of a vast Patagonian sheep ranch, weathered foreman Evans (Alejandro Sieveking, The Club) has his world upended after being supplanted by talented young upstart Jara (Cristian Salguero, Paulina).
Eager to prove his worth to the landowner and make a home for his wife and child, Jara still finds himself unprepared for the realities of an unforgiving winter in this remote environment. After a careful, austere build, this stark, elemental drama rewards us with a thrilling visceral climax.
Winner: Special Jury Award and Best Cinematography, San Sebastián
