    Insatiable: The Homaro Cantu Story

    Directed by Brett A. Schwartz
    US | 98 minutes | Dinner & Movie

A moving portrait of the molecular gastronomy genius behind Chicago’s Michelin-starred Moto, a visionary who saw fine dining as a research lab in his quest to end obesity and world hunger. Schwartz’s film takes us into the mind, and the big heart, of a genuine culinary innovator.

film synopsis

Chef Homaro Cantu was one of the Chicago school of cooking's finest. A Charlie Trotter's alumnus - along with Grant Achatz, Graham Elliot, Art Smith et al - Cantu was the genius behind the city's Michelin-starred Moto and its sister restaurant, iNG. Filmmaker Brett A. Schwartz was drawn to Cantu through newspaper reports of crazily inventive food that constantly pushed the envelope of molecular gastronomy. What he discovered was a man on a quest. A research scientist disguised in chef's whites, Cantu was on the hunt for new ideas and bold solutions far beyond the scope of fine dining; he wanted to change the world.

Brought up in poverty and abuse, Cantu's childhood lacked any stability and he was often homeless. His rise was as hard earned as it was meteoric and, as Schwartz reveals, he remained hungry for change - at least until everything came crashing down. Compelling and moving, Schwartz shows us an innovator whose big dreams were both his blessing and his curse.
