film synopsis

Québecois filmmaker Chloé Robichaud arrives with her hotly anticipated sophomore feature after 2013's acclaimed Sarah Prefers to Run. Larger in scope, Boundaries is a biting political satire that follows three female characters on Besco, a fictional island off Canada's East Coast, as they carry on negotiations designed to boost the local economy by allowing foreign companies to exploit the tiny island's natural resources. Besco's president (Macha Grenon), an American mediator (Emily VanCamp) and a political delegate (Nathalie Doummar) convene with various male executives, politicians and deal-makers as Robichaud sharply explores Canada's relationship with the US and global corporations, as well as the challenges of treading in a male-dominated and still inherently chauvinist political climate. Ultimately, though, the film is less about plot machinations than about these three women...

"It's a film about identity: the identity of the individual versus the identity of a country. We're all looking to make our own choices and decisions. When we assert ourselves as individuals, we'll be able to assert ourselves collectively." Chloé Robichaud
