A love letter to the island of Crete, this gentle Mediterranean pick-me-up posits a back-to-the-land solution to Greece’s economic crisis and boasts breathtaking cinematography, haunting, original music and mouthwatering food and wine.

film synopsis

Boasting breathtaking cinematography, haunting, original music and some mouthwatering food and wine, this mellow Mediterranean pick-me-up puts Greece's economic crisis in perspective through the experiences of Yannis, nicknamed Johnny, once the suavely elegant manager of Cretan 4-star hotels, now newly unemployed. Johnny still wakes early every morning, shaves and dresses impeccably, but retreats to his cave-like office where he researches job possibilities on the computer while trying to resist the lure of online gambling.

When his beautiful wife finally lures him out of his cave, Johnny begins an odyssey around the vibrant island he calls home and in the process, discovers a new way of life by promoting the traditional goods and services of his neighbors. Initially melancholy, but ultimately uplifting, Xamou stars Palm Springs Fest favorite Georges Corraface (Papadopoulos & Sons; A Touch of Spice) who is tentatively scheduled to present the film.

In her feature debut, a favorite at the recent Thessaloniki festival, writer-director Clio Fanouraki pays tribute to the willpower, the beauty and hidden treasures of the spectacular island of Crete and its inhabitants.
