film synopsis

After helming the big-budget studio picture Everest, Icelandic actor-turned-director Baltasar Kormákur is back on home turf-though turf is the wrong word here. Set against a snowy, near-lunar Icelandic landscape that chills to the bone, Kormákur's riveting psychological thriller maintains a vice-like grip on its audience from start to finish. Finnur (a bearded Kormákur) is a successful surgeon with a loving wife and a recalcitrant adult daughter, Anna (Hera Hilmarsdóttir), from his first marriage. Anna has been in and out of trouble and is now in over her head, courtesy of her new relationship with drug dealer Ottar (Gisli Orn Garoarsson). When Dad intervenes-and receives a beating for his efforts-the stage is set for an inexorable battle between father and boyfriend that descends into some very dark places indeed...

"[An] assured suspense drama... Kormákur dominates proceedings here with a credible performance that is committed rather than showy." Dennis Harvey, Variety
