film synopsis
The director of the hard-hitting Human Capital (PSIFF 2015) returns with a compelling comic drama, a sort of Thelma and Louise for the new millennium. His two heroines meet as patients at the Villa Biondi, a progressive but secure psychiatric clinic in Tuscany. Beatrice is a motor-mouthed fantasist, a self-styled billionaire countess who likes to believe she's on intimate terms with world leaders. Donatella is a tattooed introvert, a fragile young woman locked in her own mystery. Like Crazy tells the story of the unpredictable and moving friendship that develops between the two as they flee the mental institution in search of love and happiness in the open-air nuthouse-the outside world.
"A jaunty tale of mental illness shot with real verve, this high-energy romp is a superb showcase for its two lead actresses as they impetuously extend a group outing from the residential clinic into a two-character outlaw adventure, relying on luck, chutzpah and the kindness of strangers. This is a crowd-pleasing bittersweet comedy The film's freewheeling energy is as appealing as its developments are unpredictable." Lisa Nesselson, Screen
