Student Screening Day
Every year, over 1100 high school students journey from around the Coachella Valley to partake in an extraordinary event: Student Screening Day. This eagerly awaited program brings the energy of the Festival directly to the valley’s youth, offering them a unique cinematic experience that transcends the boundaries of their classrooms.
At Student Screening Day, students aren't just passive spectators; they're active participants in a journey of discovery. They’re immersed in the magic of cinema, engaging with thought-provoking films carefully selected from the Festival lineup by the programming team. These screenings serve as windows to the world, introducing students to a kaleidoscope of cultures, ideas, and perspectives from across the globe.
More than just a field trip, Student Screening Day is a catalyst for inspiration. Students not only experience stories unfolding on the screen, but they also gain:
- Cultural Exposure: Experiencing films from diverse cultures broadens students' understanding and appreciation of global perspectives.
- Critical Thinking: Analyzing and discussing films encourages critical thinking skills and enhances media literacy.
- Empathy Development: Engaging with characters from different backgrounds fosters empathy and promotes understanding of others' experiences.
- Creativity Spark: Exposure to innovative storytelling techniques inspires creativity and imagination in students.
- Career Exploration: Interacting with filmmakers during the Q&A portion provides insight into various career paths within the film industry and beyond.
- Community Engagement: Coming together with peers which fosters a sense of community and belonging.
