film synopsis
A coming-of-age tale that challenges the assumption that we stop growing after the tumultuous teenage years, Argentinian filmmaker Constanza Novick’s The Future Ahead uncovers the complexity of a life-long relationship between two very different women.
As pre-teens, Flor and Romina are inseparable, until their mutual adoration of a schoolboy leaves Romina without a best friend. Over a decade later, Romina (Dolores Fonzi, Paulina, PSIFF 2016) is in a healthy, contented relationship and has a newborn baby girl, but the unexpected arrival of the nomadic, carefree Flor causes the new mother to doubt her life choices. What begins as a friendly reunion unravels into a brutally honest critique of the way each lives her life and if either woman is truly happy. When Flor disappears one afternoon, her reckless abandonment of Romina may destroy the remaining roots of the friendship that they so dearly wish to preserve.
