film synopsis
"A soccer ball morphs into a ball of fire as it torpedoes across the field, creating a shock wave that rips the turf apart. Players make impossible passes, leap several stories into the air and do back flips that defy the laws of physics in this very cool, breathtaking and unforgettable comedy. Sing is a young man with high hopes for the art of Shaolin kung fu. Seeing the everyday uses for his beloved martial art, he wishes to teach it to the world, but struggles to find the right means of promotion - until he meets "Golden Leg" Fung, a down-on-his luck soccer coach. Crippled after throwing a match 20 years earlier, Fung dreams of returning to the field to even the score with his evil former boss. Witnessing the power of Sing's "Leg of Steel," Fung convinces him to reunite his martial arts brothers to form a soccer team. Director, writer, and lead actor, Stephen Chow is one of Chinese cinema's greatest comedic talents. Equally prolific and outrageous, he had become a sensation in Hong Kong due to his raw ingenuity, his exaggerated pantomimes and absurdist humor, which make Shaolin Soccer a visually exciting mix of genre-bending belly laughs and spectacular visual effects." -PSIFF 2003
