When their father calls after being estranged for 30 years, dysfunctional siblings are forced to take a road trip to their childhood village in rural Turkey in this touching and bittersweet family dramedy.

film synopsis

Turkish siblings Cemal, Suzan and Kenan have been estranged for years. Cemal is now an astronaut living in Germany, Suzan is a frustrated schoolteacher at her wit's end with her selfish husband, and Kenan is an actor who does mostly voiceover work of the cat video variety. Their worlds could not be farther apart. But when their father (who hasn't seen his children in 30 years) cryptically summons them back to their childhood village, the three are forced into a road trip that might just be the key to reuniting the family once again. Winner of the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, Butterflies is a testament to writer-director Tolga Karaçelik's ability to blend tones of playfulness with drama in this bittersweet, funny and touching tale of family dysfunction.

In competition for the New Voices New Visions Award.
