director biography

Yudi Zhang, a writer, director, and production designer, is born and raised in Beijing, China. After two years of learning in Economy and Management at Fudan University in Shanghai, she wrote and directed her first short film. Since then she discovered her real passion for film making. She transfers to the School of Journalism and focuses on documentary film. The documentary film ‘Time machine’ that she worked for as an assistant editor got selected into the Tribeca film festival. Her graduation film “Summer Time” got the graduation award in Fudan university, Yudi is now a second-year graduate student at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Working both as Production Designer and Director, she specializes in transforming ideas into color and set dressing. Her writing and directing credits for short film include: The midsummer’s Voice, Young and Beautiful, Until death do us apart. Her film has been selected into several film festival. She is currently working on her next narrative short film about transgender topic. As a production designer, she just finished her first independent feature film: Portrait of a young man. She believes that film is the best way for her to communicate to the world and she would always remember the passion from the first day.
