film synopsis
Eleven-year-old orphan Lidia has grown up in a queer oasis tucked beside a Chilean mining town, raised by drag queens and trans women, undisturbed by the rugged bigotry of her surroundings—until one day a “plague” begins to spread. With hatred and violence seeping into her community, Lidia sets out to uncover the source of the disease. In his award-winning debut, writer/director Diego Céspedes kills homo- and transphobia with kindness, bright colors, and the vibrant, big-hearted sort of love only a chosen queer family can provide. Winner: Un Certain Regard Prize, Cannes.
