Four girls inhabit the same farmhouse across generations in this poetic, dreamlike exploration of their intertwined lives, offering a haunting meditation on time, connection, and the memories we leave behind.

film synopsis

Time drifts through a farmhouse like a ghost, observing the lives of four girls across generations. Alma (Hanna Heckt) lives there shortly before World War I, Erika (Lea Drinda) in the 1940s, Angelika (Lena Urzendowsky) in the 1980s, and Lenka (Laeni Geiseler) in the present. For her second feature, director Mascha Schilinski weaves in and out of each story like a dream, revealing how—despite living decades apart—they share similar curiosities, fears, and fixations. Sprawling yet intimate, Sound of Falling is a poetic, haunting meditation on the traces we leave behind, and the invisible ties that bind us. Winner: Jury Prize, Cannes.
