film synopsis
Art imitates life in this scrappy indie delight from director Joe Burke and co-writer Oliver Cooper, who were so inspired by the big-hearted aura of local singer-songwriter Burt Berger that they built an entire narrative around him—then shot the resulting film in seven days for $7,000. In their lovably eccentric comedy, Berger plays a fictionalized version of himself: an effervescent street musician living with Parkinson’s whose world turns upside down after meeting Sammy (Cooper), a thirtysomething out-of-towner claiming to be his long-lost son. Across the haphazard course of their spontaneous weekend together, they navigate trust and betrayal. In other words, they become family.
