Erez is a gay swimmer competing for a spot in the Israeli Olympics at a desert training camp where he must deal with the homophobia of the athletic world and his hidden desire for his rival, Nevo. But showing his true feelings could prove dangerous.

film synopsis

At a training camp in the desert, Erez (a captivating Omer Perelman) is one of five swimmers competing for a spot on the Israeli Olympic swim team. Though he has a girlfriend, his love of dancing and Madonna sets him apart in the homophobic camp, where he’s subjected to casual taunts in the locker room and the more overt disdain of the rough Russian immigrant coach. In this fiercely competitive environment, Erez finds himself powerfully drawn to his rival and only friend, Nevo. But can he risk showing his true feelings? The Swimmer – filled with images of shaved, sculpted bodies – sizzles with suppressed erotic feelings as the conflicted Erez awakens to the challenges he faces as a gay athlete in a hostile environment. Perelman won the Best Actor award at the Jerusalem Film Festival for his intense portrayal of a complex young man who finds himself pitted against the one he desires, and must decide if self-esteem is more important than winning.
