film synopsis
The year is 1991, and the South Korean government hopes to get one step closer to UN membership by winning the vote of member nation Somalia. But their tiny presence in Mogadishu – which includes career diplomat Ambassador Han and hotshot new arrival Counselor Kang – is thwarted at every turn by their rivals, the North Koreans. When civil war arrives in the capital, both embassies are left with few lifelines and dwindling opportunities for escape as the city descends into violent mayhem. The two groups enter an uneasy truce, combining their resources and ingenuity in a desperate bid for survival. Thoroughly immersing viewers in an urban war zone, director Ryoo Seung-wan amps up the suspense and high-voltage thrills in several action sequences that electrifyingly capture the diplomats’ desperate attempts at a getaway. As emotionally affecting as it is hair-raising, the film is a rousing testament to the power of shared humanity over political animosity.
