film synopsis
On the outskirts of Casablanca, in the infamous Sidi Moumen neighborhood, a new hip-hop class is available for teenagers at the local arts center. Anas, a former rapper, shares his passion for hip-hop with the new generation and shows them how powerful the art form can be when it comes from a raw and genuine place. Director Nabil Ayouch (Horses of God) captures Moroccan youth – all its hopes, doubts and dreams – through a musical lens. Once more collaborating with nonprofessional actors, Ayouch blurs the lines between documentary and fiction, devising tight and controlled musical numbers and contrasting them with the spontaneity and authenticity of the dramatic scenes. In this inspiring tale of mentorship, Anas gives all of his students a creative outlet for their frustrations, freeing them from their families' and society’s expectations.
