film synopsis
Slowly adjusting to her new life as a widow and single mother, Mina (co-director Maryam Moghaddam in a raw and compelling performance) learns that her husband was executed for a crime he did not commit. When all the government has to offer is financial compensation for the mistake, Mina decides to take the matter into her own hands, to find inner peace for herself and her young daughter. Between the repressive system governed by Sharia law and her controlling in-laws, the arrival of a stranger named Reza feels like a life buoy, but Mina’s journey will be an uphill battle. Directors Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha join forces to bring this slow-burning and subtle psychological drama to life, mixing themes of guilt, forgiveness, revenge and sacrifice. With carefully constructed framing, the camera traps Mina within the grip of this system, making her quiet resistance all the more palpable.
