Carlton Daniel Jr. (b. Cleveland, OH) is a writer, filmmaker & visual artist exploring narratives through his lens as a queer artist within the Black community. In 2016, he received an M.F.A. in Film Production and Dramatic Writing from Syracuse University. As a recipient of the African American Studies Graduate Fellowship, Daniel wrote, directed, and produced narrative shorts centered around themes of social justice, afro diasporic identities, and the intersectionality of race, class, & gender. Daniel's work has screened at festivals, cinemas, and institutions worldwide including Outfest, The Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, The Toronto LGBT Film Festival, MoCA Cleveland, Disney/CalArts Theater, TIFF Bell Lightbox, and the Director’s Guild of America. He’s received Best North American Short at the 2017 North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and the Audience Award at the 2017 Baltimore International Black Film Festival. Daniel is currently undergoing post-production for his narrative short film, Homegoing.
