Two mother-daughter duos must contend with their grief and complicated relationships with one another when the person who connects them dies. This intimate exploration of loss starring Heather Graham and Jodi Balfour is threaded throughout with moments of sweet humor.

film synopsis

Heather Graham stars as Cami, a successful children’s book author and (over-)doting mother to an introverted teenage girl. When her former husband dies, she is forced to face her long unresolved feelings about her marriage and, more urgently, her ex-spouse’s new wife and young daughter. In her feature film debut, director Aisling Chin-Yee guides her gifted cast through an intimate and often comically volatile exploration of grief, marriage, divorce and motherhood. The film’s modest scale allows for emotions to play as large as necessary, and for delightful moments of humor to thread between the dramatic peaks. At its core it’s the story of an unlikely bonding of four women who, despite the cheerless genesis of their relationship, somehow end up taking care of each other in a pragmatic fashion — the way that women do.
