2020 Film Festival
film synopsis
“With eight amazing books on Mexican cooking and culture,” Martha Stewart once said on her television show, “it can be said that the author Diana Kennedy’s knowledge and passion for Mexican cooking is unsurpassed.” In director Elizabeth Carroll’s documentary, the award-winning cookbook scribe, fervent environmentalist and fiery nonagenarian reflects on her life, her career and the six decades she spent criss-crossing Mexico researching the country’s deliciously “down-to-earth” recipes. But given the urgency of climate change, the film is also food for thought: Kennedy is also known for her passionate environmentalism, living sustainably and speaking, rather frankly, on the importance of keeping the planet healthy. Featuring sumptuous cinematography of Mexico and mouthwatering close-ups of delicious-looking food, Carroll simultaneously defies her film’s title while insisting every audience member leaves hungry. Just make sure to locate the nearest cocina following the screening — this is one film you’ll want to taco ‘bout.
