film synopsis
A salutary warning about how easily democracies are endangered, this psychological profile of a political assassin provides provocative drama as it looks at what inspired the devoutly Orthodox law student Yigal Amir (Yehuda Nahari Halevi) to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on November 4, 1995. At the time, Rabin was attempting to orchestrate a comprehensive peace settlement between Israelis and Palestinians that involved giving up territory controlled by Israel since the Six-Day War, but his death effectively derailed the prospect of peace. Unraveling like a thriller with compelling archival footage neatly woven in, Incitement is sure to elicit debate, not least for its portrayal of Amir (the son of Yemeni immigrants) as attractive and charismatic, and for re-airing his views which are still shared by many in the country, even in the Knesset.
