When the struggling residents of a small Argentinian town are bilked out of their life savings on the eve of Argentina’s economic collapse, they set out to recover their money by any means necessary in this fast-paced caper comedy.

film synopsis

All that former soccer star Fermín (Ricardo Darín) and his wife wanted was to live a quiet life, send their son to a good university, and revive the long-shuttered local granary in hopes of bringing jobs and prosperity back to their small Argentinian town. Graciously accepting hard-earned investments from a colorful band of locals including cantankerous tire shop owner Antonio (Luis Brandoni) and shipping magnate Carmen, Antonio stashes the money in a safe deposit box. When an unscrupulous bank manager convinces Antonio to deposit the fortune on the eve of Argentina’s 2001 economic collapse, the community sees its entire wealth disappear into the pockets of the rich and powerful. After Antonio is tipped off that his politically connected lawyer has hidden their fortune on his estate, the community bands together to take what’s theirs, leading to a breathless, pulse-pounding heist in this feel-good action comedy from director Sebastián Borensztein.
