film synopsis

From director Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty), Military Wives is a cathartic and delightful 1980s-pop-filled soufflé that shines a spotlight on the resilient wives of the deployed, and their attempts to make the best out of a tumultuous situation. Emotions run high on the eve of a six-month deployment to Afghanistan for the soldiers and their spouses, including “highest-ranking” wife and social committee chair Kate (Kristin Scott Thomas). Her regimented type-A personality poises her to be a perfect fit to lead the disparate wives of the camp in scheduled activities aimed to distract. Her place as social dictator is challenged by the crass and beloved Lisa (Sharon Horgan) who generally finds a night of knocking back pints as therapeutic as any knitting club ever could be. When the two combine forces to create the base’s first choir, their difference in song selection is only the beginning of the choir’s journey through happiness and heartbreak in this charming ensemble comedy-drama based on a true story.
