A gripping political thriller starring Ricardo Darín (Truman) as newly-elected Argentine president Hernán Blanco, eager to bolster his image at a gathering of Latin American leaders. Already dogged by a journalist and surprised by the presence of a slick American official, things only get more complicated when Blanco’s troubled daughter arrives.

film synopsis

A gripping new political thriller from Santiago Mitre, director of Paulina (PSIFF 2016).

Having run on a platform of humility and man-of-the-people charm, newly elected Argentine President Hernán Blanco (Ricardo Darín, Truman; The Secret In Their Eyes) quickly finds that there’s a fine line between personal kindness and perceived weakness as a leader. Bruised by recent public opinion, Blanco seizes the opportunity to burnish his image as a tough, effective president while attending a gathering of Latin American leaders in the stunning, snow-capped mountains of the Chilean Andes. Yet in the midst of tense backroom deals, a dogged pursuit by journalist Claudia Klein and an unexpected visit from slick U.S. State Department official Dereck McKinley (Christian Slater), Blanco is blindsided by the appearance of his troubled daughter Marina (Dolores Fonzi, Paulina), whose ex-husband threatens to expose shady personal and financial dealings from the resident’s past.

In competition for the Cine Latino Award.
