film synopsis
The exuberant and crafty Janina Duszejko leads a pack of eccentric characters in Agnieszka Holland’s (Europa Europa) celebrated return to cinema.
Spoor centers around the mysterious deaths of poachers in a small Polish village near the border of the Czech Republic. Janina, a stalwart animal rights activist and amateur astrologist, seeks answers when she discovers that trigger-happy hunters have murdered her two beloved dogs, but her cries for justice falls on deaf ears. Although her impassioned search for the culprits comes up short, she captures the interest of cranky entomologist Boros and boyish tech wizard Dyzio, among others. Yet when members of the local hunting club begin to turn up dead with suspicious deer hooves at each murder scene, Janina believes it is Mother Nature herself seeking revenge.
Spoor is an outrageously unique eco-thriller, a whodunit that plays with genre and perspective while leaving the audience guessing until the very end.
In competition for the FIPRESCI Prize.
