film synopsis
After serving as a Marine in World War II, handsome young Midwesterner Scotty Bowers settled in Los Angeles, where he stumbled into a career satisfying the sexual desires of some of the most famous people in Hollywood, both male and female. As documented in his controversial, tell-all 2012 book Full Service, Scotty employed a stable of young men to cater to such closeted luminaries as Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, Cole Porter, Rock Hudson, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. As the now 94-year-old legend insists, he just wanted to make people happy. Matt Tyrnauer’s engaging, dishy documentary doesn’t simply rehash the book’s eye-popping revelations. It’s both portrait of Hollywood then and now, and an investigation into the elusive inner life of this affable hedonist, who now lives in a scarily cluttered home in the Hollywood Hills with his wife Lois, who chooses not to know about her husband’s colorful past life.
