Now in its fourteenth year, ShortFest has captured the industry's attention as a prime scouting ground for new filmmaking talent, having presented 53 films that have gone on to receive Academy Award nominations.
ShortFest 2007 surpassed all expectations and has been written into the records books:
- 332 short films culled from just over 2,500 submissions
- 40 countries and territories represented
- 17,400 total attendance, an increase of 9.4% from 2006
- Box office revenue was $79,335, a 27% jump from last year
- 650 filmmakers and industry representatives in attendance
While the Festival has a very broad appeal, many of its films are created by up-and-coming filmmakers and targeted to a younger demographic of 20 to 35 year-olds. Of particular interest to the more than 300 filmmakers who join us each year are the Master Classes, panels and discussions offered throughout the Festival, as well as the coveted One-On-One personal consultations with industry professionals. Representatives from Panavision, the Writers Guild of America, Fox Searchlight, the Sundance Film Festival, Nickelodeon and SAGIndie, to name a few, have all shared their time and expertise.
ShortFest presents a unique opportunity to access a wide cross section of filmmakers from around the world, as well as young consumers, as part of an event that has been described as "hip and edgy."
