to honor filmmaker Ivan Trujillo at the
Palm Springs International Film Festival


(PALM SPRINGS) – Tomorrow, January 11th, Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez will honor the Mexican filmmaker, Mr. Ivan Trujillo, at a special presentation at the 2013 Palm Springs International Film Festival.  Trujillo, the Director of the Guadalajara Film Festival, will receive the honor for his contributions to the advancement of Spanish language cinema at 6:30 p.m. at the Palm Springs Regal Theater. 

 “I am honored to recognize Ivan Trujillo for his decades of work in the service and promotion of Latino arts and culture.  I applaud his efforts in overseeing the influential Guadalajara International Film Festival, an invaluable showcase for films and emerging filmmakers of the Ibero American cinema,” said Pérez, Vice Chair of the California Latino Caucus.  “He has shown himself to be a true champion of Latino cinema and culture, both here and abroad.”

 Under the leadership of Director Trujillo, and with the collaboration of the University of Guadalajara Foundation, the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) launched its first film event in Los Angeles this past October, the Muestra de GuadaLAjara, in an effort to promote Latino culture, while providing films rarely accessible to the Hispanic community in the United States.

 Trujillo is attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival to serve on the jury for the newly created Cine Latino Award, which will be present a $5,000 cash prize to the best Ibero American film screening at the Festival.  The Cine Latino program is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz and the Cine Latino Award is sponsored by the Guadalajara International Film Festival and the University of Guadalajara Foundation/USA.
