film synopsis

Fleeing from their abusive and neglectful father, Link (Phillip Lewitski) and his younger half-brother Travis (Avery Winters-Anthony) set off in search of Link’s mother, whom they had been led to believe was dead. Along the way they encounter Pasmay (Joshua Odjick), a Mi’kmaw dancer, also estranged from his family. A growing attraction between Link and Pasmay, and exposure to Mi’kmaw culture, help Link see a future for himself for the first time. Remarkable performances and beautiful cinematography make for an exquisitely touching and engaging film that’s part road movie, part romance, all told from a queer Indigenous perspective. Signaling the arrival of one of the year’s most compelling and refreshing new cinematic voices, writer-director Bretten Hannam has created an award-winning tale that tackles difficult subjects with delicacy, sweet humour and emotional complexity, all while avoiding clichés and stereotypes.
