Palm Springs, CA –The 18th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will honor Jessica Biel with the Rising Star Award at the Festival’s annual Awards Gala. Previously announced honorees include the film Little Miss Sunshine, the cast of Babel, Sydney Pollack, Kate Winslet, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Todd Field and Adam Beach. The Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and will be hosted by “Entertainment Tonight’s” Mary Hart.
Commenting on the selection, Festival chairman Earl Greenburg said, “This is one of our most star-studded Award Galas to date and we’re pleased to include Jessica Biel in our stellar line-up of honorees. Biel’s stand-out performances in this year’s The Illusionist and Home of the Brave continue to cement her status as a rising talent in film.”
Jessica Biel has become one of Hollywood’s most coveted actresses starring in two critically acclaimed films this year. Biel starred alongside Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti in the critically acclaimed film The Illusionist released by Freestyle Releasing. Entertainment Weekly reported that “Jessica Biel pulls off her most impressive trick yet: transforming herself into a turn-of-the-century Austrian duchess – and a serious art house actress.” Audiences will see her in a very different context in the return-from-war drama Home of the Brave from MGM with Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, 50 Cent and directed by Irwin Winkler. The film opens in limited release December 15, 2006 and is scheduled for a nationwide release on January 5, 2007.
Biel’s most recent film roles include those in London, co-starring Jason Statham, Chris Evans and Kelli Garner; Cameron Crowe’s Elizabethtown, with Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst and Susan Sarandon; and Stealth, starring alongside Josh Lucas and Jamie Foxx. Biel recently finished filming the sci-fi thriller Next opposite Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore for Revolution Studios. Next will be released in September 2007. Biel is currently filming the comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry in New York and Los Angeles opposite Adam Sandler and Kevin James, which is slated for release July 20, 2007. Her other films include Ulee’s Gold, Summer Catch, The Rules of Attraction and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
