PSIFF14 Announces a Free Outdoor Screening of "Cinema Paradiso"
2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival

Palm Springs, CA (January 9, 2014) – The 25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will offer a free outdoor screening of Cinema Paradiso at the Forever Marilyn Park this Saturday evening.  The event is presented by Festival Sponsor, Desert Regional Medical Center.  The film was the festival’s first Audience Award winner and received the Academy Award® for Best Foreign Language Film.  The screening will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 11.  Free hot chocolate from Espresso Cielo, the Official Coffee of the Festival, will be provided to the first 250 guests.  Festival sponsor Frito Lay will distribute complimentary snacks.

“We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to share one of the Festival’s all-time most popular films with today’s audience, courtesy of our friends at Desert Regional,” said Festival Director Darryl Macdonald. “The film is a timeless treasure tracing a young boy’s lifelong love affair with the magic of the movies thanks to his relationship with a theatre projectionist in a small town in Italy in the late1940’s.  That one of the pivotal scenes in the movie takes place during an outdoor screening makes this event even more perfect as a 25th Anniversary celebration of the opening of this Festival, and an ode to the joys of movie going in general.”

Cinema Paradiso (Italy) traces the tale of a man looking back at his lifelong romance with the cinema, working as an apprentice to a projectionist in his small town’s cherished movie palace. The film is directed by Giuseppe Tornatore and stars Antonella Attili, Enzo Cannavale, Isa Danieli, Leo Gullotta, Marco Leonard.
