Shortfest Receives $20,000 Grant from Academy
2012 Palm Springs International Shortfest

Palm Springs, CA (March 1, 2012) – The Palm Springs International ShortFest, Short Film Festival & Film Market, celebrated as one of the most acclaimed short film showcases in the world, has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences to be applied to the 2012 ShortFest Forums.  The 2012 Festival will take place June 19-25.

ShortFest Director Darryl Macdonald stated “We’re hugely grateful to the Academy for their support of our efforts to provide student and emerging filmmakers with the kind of intensive practical and creative opportunities they need to further their knowledge, capabilities and career prospects in the film industry. This grant will enable us to expand both the scope of programming and the numbers of filmmakers served by the ShortFest Educational Forums.”

The ShortFest Forums are a series of panels, master classes, presentations and one-on-one meetings available to filmmakers attending the Festival.  Prominent industry figures participate in these forums to discuss trends, new technologies and emerging paradigms in film funding, production, distribution and exhibition, providing filmmakers both the knowledge and the networking opportunities to further their careers in the film industry.

The grant was awarded through the Academy’s Film Festival Grants program, a competitive grant process administered through its Education & Outreach initiatives. The Film Festival Grants program has awarded $4.4 million to film festivals since 1999.
