New Voices/New Visions

The New Voices/New Visions Award will honor one of 12 features from new international filmmakers marking their feature film debut at the Festival, with the additional criteria that the films selected are currently without U.S. distribution.

A compliment to our Modern Masters section, New Voices/New Visions focuses on films that our programmers feel are the most exciting new voices and visions to have emerged in the last year. The selections range from edgy and bold (Mikkel Munch-Fals’ Nothing’s All Bad, Pernilla August’s Beyond, Emre Sahin’s 40, Johannes Naber’s The Albanian, and Juanita Wilson’s As If I Am Not There) to deeply touching (Emilio Emilio Aragón’s Paper Birds, Hans Van Nuffel’s Oxygen, I Nayra Ilic’s Square Meter) to comedies (Edoardo Leo’s Eighteen Years Later, Alexandru Maftei’s Hello! How Are You, Ola Simonsson and Johannes Stjarne Nilssons’ eccentric Sound of Noise), and Vardis Marinakis’ visually stunning drama Black Field.

A jury of US distributors will award the winner with Panavision Camera Package rental (valued at $60,0000).
