1945. The U.S. Army has been sent to determine the extent of Emperor Hirohito’s responsibility in the decision to bomb Pearl Harbor. General MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones) appoints “Japanese expert” General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox, Lost) to head the investigation. Feller’s expertise comes in part from a relationship with a young Japanese woman named Aya (Eriko Hatsune) who disappeared during the war. As he goes about his work he continues a desperate search for Aya in a nation devastated by war.

Director Peter Webber (Girl with a Pearl Earring) uses Fellers to show America’s struggles in the immediate aftermath of WWII, its need to gain a deeper understanding of the people and culture of a vanquished enemy. Tommy Lee Jones gives a vividly brusque performance as General MacArthur, a cantankerous figure dedicated to both his own political ambitions as well as a commitment to justice amidst growing international pressure for revenge.

Producer Garry Foster expected to attend both screenings
