Stylistically in the tradition of current Turkish art-house cinema, and featuring some of the actors from Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Once Upon A Time In Anatolia, Mold keeps its focus firmly on human nature. The protagonist is lonely, 55-year-old Basri, a railroad track inspector. He must walk for miles everyday.

Basri’s thoughts are always pre-occupied with finding his son Seyfi. The boy went missing 18 years ago when he was arrested for anti-government activity while at university in Istanbul. Six years after that Basri’s wife died. Every month, for the past 18 years, he has written letters to the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Police Headquarters. Because of these letters he has been tortured, interrogated, isolated… but he has never given up.

“Though the story is simple, the emotions generated are anything but superficial… the sincerity and clarity of the storytelling offer many rewards, right up to the heartbreaking finale.” Jay Weissberg, Variety
