New this year, Palm Springs International ShortFest will present the first public screening of the winners of this year’s Student Academy Awards – five films chosen by the Student Academy Awards Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as the ‘best in class’ from among all of the student films submitted to the Academy this year.

In the past, a number of Student Oscar®-winning films have been showcased at ShortFest prior to going on to win Academy Awards in the short film categories, including recent ShortFest alumni On The Line (2008), God of Love 2010, Kavi (2010) and Raju (2011), all attesting to the quality of the Academy’s selection for their Student Oscar® winners. And it’s a good bet that one of this year’s winners will be among next year’s Oscar® nominees.
