One of the biggest box office successes for a documentary in Swedish history, Women With Cows attracted more than 40,000 Swedes to theatres. In Norway and Finland, the film attracted large television audiences. Why would people be so interested in a "small" film about two sisters and their cows? Perhaps it is the beautiful cinematography by Peter Gerdehag, a veteran nature and landscape photographer, who captures the brilliant Swedish light and crafts sumptuous compositions. Perhaps it is the touching and occasionally humorous story of two sisters who don't see eye-to-eye on cows and other matters but clearly love each other. Perhaps it is the chance to see a disappearing way of life on the family farm? No way. It is because of one woman's symbiotic relationship with cows. She simply can't or won't live without them. She also likes cats, chickens, and other animals, too. Animal lovers of all stripes should count on spending some quality time with Inger, her older sis Britt, and their lovely cows. Warning: film contains one scene of animal destruction.
