Sixtyish taxi driver Hartmut Mackowiak is a grumpy man, stubbornly set in his old-fashioned ways. His stubbornness ruined his marriage of 35 years and is continuing to damage his relationship with his former wife and adult daughter. Happily, however, change is on the way. One day Hartmut drives Turkish performer Gulen and her daughter Hayat from the airport to Gulen’s mother’s apartment. Gulen is going on tour and grandma will be minding the adorable six-year-old who doesn’t yet know German. A few days later fate will unexpectedly put Hayat in Hartmut’s path again. In no time at all Hayat manages to disarm him and the audience. Hartmut’s life had become joyless and monotonous; through her he learns to consider someone else’s needs–and gets in touch with his own. An endearing, feel-good dramedy, Three Quarter Moon proves, without moralizing or sentimentality, that change is possible no matter what phase of life one is in.
