Marcel Levesque (Gilbert Sicotte), a dapper, silver tongued, aging car salesman in the snowbound town of Lac St. Jean lives only for his work, his beloved daughter Maryse and his grandson Antoine. He lives quietly across from the dealership with no friends and no outside interests. A master of persuasion, selling is his calling, a skill in which he takes great satisfaction, telling stories that relax his clients with only thing in mind–to move the big American cars off the lot. But the cold keeps the tourists away and the one and only local industry, the paper mill, is closing temporarily, immobilizing the economy. The business seems absurd as more men are laid off, but how can the “Salesman of the Month “ for 16 years running retire? One of Canada’s Top Ten films of the year and winner of numerous International awards, this debut feature is a subtle, assured, psychologically acute character study built on a superb performance of Gilbert Sicotte.
