A beach holiday in Tuscany draws families and their children together. While Nic’s parents are trapped in a precarious relationship of mutual dependence and abuse, their 12-year-old son acts out his father’s traumatizing rages while playing with his friends. Nic is drawn to Marie, the oldest girl in the group of friends. Meanwhile, Marie is desperate to find out what happened to her father, and her mother refuses to give any indication of where he might be. Nic tries to teach her how to dissociate from any form of feeling, but ultimately their experience of the joys and pains of first love transforms both of them. As the summer progresses, these two learn hard life lessons and their childlike games take on a more adult tone, until their last day together leads to an unforgettable adventure. Summer Games is a film about the first steps towards a life of one’s own.
