Program: True Stories
Language: English
Jerry Ensminger, a Marine Corps Master Sergeant who served as a drill instructor for nearly 25 years, may not fit the standard profile of an activist or protestor. But when he heard a news report of water contamination at Camp Lejeune where he and his family were stationed, something clicked: his daughter had died a dozen years earlier from leukemia. Thus began a 13-year quest for answers and justice from the Marine Corps and the US government. Along the way, Jerry becomes a source of information and inspiration for others stationed at Lejeune with their own histories of rare cancers and unexplained medical conditions. As the Corps’ cover-up begins to unravel it becomes clear they’re dealing with one of the largest cases of environmental contamination in the country. Through it all, Ensminger remains a compassionate, articulate, and unsung truth seeker. With a powerful and unexpected ending, Ensminger’s journey ultimately redefines what a military hero is—someone willing to go to battle day-after-day to fight for what’s right.
