Canada, 2011, 95 Minute Running Time
Program: World Cinema
Twenty-one-year-old Will Rankin (Max Theriot) is living under the shadow of Cystic Fibrosis–he’s even road-testing coffins for when the time comes–when an old friend from the hospital throws him off his pattern. Bobby’s final instructions request that Will embark on a 2000-mile pilgrimage down the West Coast from BC to Baja, where he is to scatter his ashes at a legendary shrine. He’s accompanied on the journey by his late friend’s sister (Laurence Laboeuf), and in classic road movie fashion they encounter several oddball characters along the way (there are cameos by Jason Priestley, Gary Farmer and Juliette Lewis as Will’s aunt). Inspired by director Max McGuire’s own CF diagnosis–and a trip he took to the same New Mexico shrine–Foreverland is infused not only with the authenticity of first-hand knowledge, but with an intensely vivid emotional spectrum and McGuire’s own life spirit. It also represents a significant step forward for rising young star Max Theriot (Chloe; My Soul to Take).
Director Max McGuire, Writer Shawn Riopelle, and Actor Max Thieriot are expected to attend both screenings.
