Critical Perspectives - Kenneth Turan presents Pan’s Labyrinth
Join L.A. Times film critic Kenneth Turan for a screening of Golden Globe nominee Pan’s Labyrinth, followed by an on-stage interview with Director/Writer Guillermo del Toro, the brilliant, iconoclastic creator of this highly acclaimed and haunting new film. Del Toro has justifiably earned a reputation as one of the most audacious talents working in contemporary cinema, creating such astonishing films as Chronos (1993), Mimic (1997), The Devil’s Backbone (2001) and Hellboy (2004). With Pan’s Labyrinth, he has achieved perhaps his finest work to date, garnering rave reviews from American and international critics at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and recently winning Best Foreign Film honors from the Boston and San Francisco Film Critics, nominations for the Golden Globe Awards, Independent Spirit Awards and a slew of other year end honors. Del Toro will also be presented with the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s International Director Award at the close of this program.
