In this low-key charmer, unexpected connections prove the spice of life. Philipp is a young, successful actor working for the most important theaters in Vienna and Hamburg. He spends his time learning lines, rehearsing and performing. But when Philipp meets aging circus performer Walter, his father’s estranged brother, with whom he starts a friendship, and has to face his neighbor Victor’s problems, he is reminded that life is more than a stage.

Like the directors’ first festival hit La Pivellina (PSIFF 2010), The Shine of Day is a gritty, semi-improvised drama about inter-generational bonding. The gentle, meandering story is based on the professional experiences of their two lead actors.

“It’s mostly about two men getting to know each other and connecting and having philosophical conversations about the meaning of life and such. The title refers to what it is that’s best about life, what makes life worth living. It has a certain looseness and trueness to it that feels refreshing and real.” Filmophilia
