Palestinian architect Shadi is back home in Nazareth to fulfill his wajib—his duty—in the preparations for his younger sister’s upcoming wedding. Shadi makes Italy his full time home now, and his stylish red pants and pink shirt (not to mention the fact that he’s unmarried with a live-in girlfriend) are just a tad out of place to his dad, Abu Shadi, a beloved local teacher. As the father-son duo drive around in Abu Shadi’s old car delivering wedding invitations, the differences between Shadi’s idealistic viewpoints and his father’s pragmatic beliefs surface.

Wajib is a charming and intimate road movie starring real-life father and son Mohammad and Saleh Bakri. Funny neighbors and family members, lusty ex-girlfriends, favorite uncles and cousins and a few too many cups of coffee round out this story of community, Palestinian identity and the trappings—and people—that connect us with home.
