film synopsis

A bittersweet story of letting go, starting over, and seizing the opportunities that only arise when you’re miles out of your comfort zone. Australia’s entry into this year’s Oscar® race is the country’s first official co-production with Italy, and each unique culture brings something different to the cinematic table.

Thirty-five-year-old Marco is a talented chef who’s wasting away at a factory job in Northern Italy, only cooking on the side when his best friend Claudio instigates fabulous backyard gatherings. Tragedy throws Marco into a tailspin, and into the path of Olivia, an Australian just arrived in Udine to sell her late grandparents apartment. Olivia has her own cautious career hopes, and as romance slowly kindles between them they also fan the flames of their long-denied dreams.

Set against the breathtaking beauty of Italy (affectionately shot by Katie Milwright, the Australian cinematographer of Looking for Grace, PSIFF 2016), Ruth Borgobello’s polished first feature is loosely based on her own romantic story.

In competition for the FIPRESCI Prize.
