When a selfless widow finds late-life romance, it changes her relationship with her selfish sons and her belief in the “musts” she imposes on her life. Bohdan Sláma, the Czech Republic’s leading humanist writer/director, crafts plum roles for a pair of beloved older stars in this bittersweet dramedy.
Hana is a 67-year-old widow who each week prepares an elaborate Sunday dinner for her two adult sons and their families, even though every get-together is marred by petty behavior on the part of one or both of the siblings. While minding her grandson at the park one day, Hana meets the charismatic Broňa, who is part of a group of wild-water swimmers. He is a bit mysterious and quite a character. But when the newly confident Hana starts to make changes and incorporate her new-found love into her life, secrets from Broňa’s past threaten her plans.
